Male Yeast Infection
Male yeast infection is not a myth and any man can suffer from it. Yeast infection in men isn’t that common but it does occur and the symptoms are generally the same as a yeast infection in women.
Symptoms of Male Yeast Infection
Penile yeast infection is noticed with symptoms such as red rash or itching and burning at the head of the penis. The most common symptoms include a light discharge or a white, clumpy discharge, burning sensation of the infected area or a burning sensation when urinating, dry cracked skin that worsens during an erection, irritation and soreness of the head of the penis, pain during sexual intercourse, rash, itching or redness along the shaft or on the tip of the penis. However, many men have no symptoms during a yeast infection. Having no symptoms at all is common, and usually, symptoms will emerge later if the yeast infection is left untreated. Since yeast infections can be transmitted through vaginal, anal and oral sex the infection can play almost ping pong, going between the couple but having no symptoms in either one.
Causes of Yeast Infection in Men
In penile candidiasis, the causes include sexual intercourse with an infected party, alcohol, beer, wheat products, corn products, peanuts, barley, weakened immune system, and diabetes. Another common cause of male yeast infection is taking prescription antibiotics. Antibiotics can kill beneficial bacteria that are found on the penis and in the crotch which enables a yeast infection to occur.
Treatment of Male Yeast Infections
Consult a doctor to examine the genitalia and confirm the right treatment for the yeast infection, as well as to make sure it is not a sexually transmitted disease which cannot be handled at home. After the male yeast infection diagnosis, you can choose a conventional treatment amongst the multitude of over the counter and prescription medicine available. Often, treatment is as simple as an over-the-counter antifungal cream applied for 5 to 7 days. Also, keep in mind joint treatment for couples is important in order to prevent passing the yeast infection back and forth. You should however always consult a qualified doctor before starting treatment.
Penis yeast infections are a reality to those suffering from it, even though women are the ones who get most of the attention. Most men do not realize that they are suffering from male yeast infection unless they experience symptoms which affect their health. A male yeast infection is embarrassing to say the least, however it is necessary to diagnose it and get treatment started in order to avoid any long-term damage. The best way to know if you have contracted a male yeast infection is by scheduling a visit with your doctor.
