Having a vaginal scent is normal and not considered a problem in itself. Uncovering the cause of a new or recurring vaginal discharge and vaginal odor is an intensely personal and private matter which is confronted each day by thousands of women worldwide. Worrying if others can smell your vagina makes you feel insecure. What is a typical vaginal odor cause? Vaginal odor is caused by vaginal bacterial overgrowth known as bacterial vaginosis, which has a “fishy” or “musty” smell. It is hard to prevent bacteria build up or foreign parasites from entering the vagina but you can most certainly help to control the problem.

Possible vaginal odor causes include:

Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is one of the chief causes of vaginal odor. The causes of Bacterial Vaginosis are not fully understood, a woman can get it regardless of whether she has multiple sexual partners or none at all.

While yeast infections are common causes of vaginal discharge, they do not generally cause a “fishy” vaginal odor.

Trichomoniasis causes a vaginal discharge that is yellow-green, foamy, and awful smelling.

The offender is sometimes an infection called Gardnerella which leads to bacterial vaginosis.

A change in partners could cause a rank vaginal smell as well since semen (if the partner is male) mingling with your own fluids during intercourse alters your natural smell.

Douching with over the counter perfumed douches can actually cause and aggravate your vaginal odor problem because they alter the vagina’s pH, which should ideally be around 3 or 4.

Being on your period can cause an unpleasant vaginal odor as well.

Forgetting to remove a saturated tampon will cause infection and a pungent vaginal odor.

Not washing the vagina properly.

The above list are some of the possible causes of vaginal odor as a symptom. As a quick recap, changes in vaginal odor can occur throughout the menstrual cycle but can also result from yeast infections, sexually transmitted infections, Trichomoniasis, or Bacterial Vaginosis.

Wondering if everyone else around you can smell you? Constantly worrying about how you smell down there? Even when you notice a recent difference in your vaginal odor, it is not necessarily an infection. If you are embarrassed by vaginal odor, you’re probably afraid to have sex. Please see a doctor to treat the vaginal odor causes.

Bacteria vaginosis is a common misspelling of bacterial vaginosis. Bacteria vaginosis (BV) is the most common vaginal infection among women who are pregnant and need to be particularly aware of this problem. Bacteria vaginosis has been associated with preterm delivery, premature of the membranes, infection of the chorion and amnion, histologic chorioamnionitis, and infection of amniotic fluid. It is one of three major types of vaginal infections. The other two major vaginal infections are monilia and trichomonas.

What are the Main Symptoms of Bacteria Vaginosis?

Usual symptoms are smelly vaginal discharges with a “fish-like” odor, burning urination, and moderate to severe itching. However, most women with BV report no signs or symptoms at all. Other possible symptoms of BV are strong, unpleasant vaginal odor after sexual intercourse. Women who experience these symptoms should promptly see their physicians to get tested for BV and rule out a sexually-transmitted disease.

What is the Treatment for Bacteria Vaginosis?

Many women often mistakenly think they have a “yeast infection” and treat themselves when, in fact, they have bacteria vaginosis that will not respond to self-treatment with over-the-counter yeast medications. Bacteria vaginosis is treated when there are obvious symptoms, if you are about to have a medical procedure such as IUCD insertion or a gynaecological procedure, or if you are pregnant. Treatment is especially important in pregnant women. Although BV will sometimes clear up without treatment, all women with symptoms of BV should be treated to avoid complications. Bacteria vaginosis can easily be treated with Metronidazole or Clindamycin. Both are topical vaginal creams that are applied to the effected vaginal area. The Metronidazole vaginal cream products appear to be the best of the antibiotic treatment options.

Bacteria vaginosis is quite a common condition amongst a lot of women worldwide. BV is the most common cause of vaginitis symptoms among women of childbearing age. Fortunately most cases of bacteria vaginosis resolve with treatment and don’t cause any complications. See your health care provider for precise testing and to get the most appropriate and effective treatment right away.

Male yeast infection is not a myth and any man can suffer from it. Yeast infection in men isn’t that common but it does occur and the symptoms are generally the same as a yeast infection in women.

Symptoms of Male Yeast Infection

Penile yeast infection is noticed with symptoms such as red rash or itching and burning at the head of the penis. The most common symptoms include a light discharge or a white, clumpy discharge, burning sensation of the infected area or a burning sensation when urinating, dry cracked skin that worsens during an erection, irritation and soreness of the head of the penis, pain during sexual intercourse, rash, itching or redness along the shaft or on the tip of the penis. However, many men have no symptoms during a yeast infection. Having no symptoms at all is common, and usually, symptoms will emerge later if the yeast infection is left untreated. Since yeast infections can be transmitted through vaginal, anal and oral sex the infection can play almost ping pong, going between the couple but having no symptoms in either one.

Causes of Yeast Infection in Men

In penile candidiasis, the causes include sexual intercourse with an infected party, alcohol, beer, wheat products, corn products, peanuts, barley, weakened immune system, and diabetes. Another common cause of male yeast infection is taking prescription antibiotics. Antibiotics can kill beneficial bacteria that are found on the penis and in the crotch which enables a yeast infection to occur.

Treatment of Male Yeast Infections

Consult a doctor to examine the genitalia and confirm the right treatment for the yeast infection, as well as to make sure it is not a sexually transmitted disease which cannot be handled at home. After the male yeast infection diagnosis, you can choose a conventional treatment amongst the multitude of over the counter and prescription medicine available. Often, treatment is as simple as an over-the-counter antifungal cream applied for 5 to 7 days. Also, keep in mind joint treatment for couples is important in order to prevent passing the yeast infection back and forth. You should however always consult a qualified doctor before starting treatment.

Penis yeast infections are a reality to those suffering from it, even though women are the ones who get most of the attention. Most men do not realize that they are suffering from male yeast infection unless they experience symptoms which affect their health. A male yeast infection is embarrassing to say the least, however it is necessary to diagnose it and get treatment started in order to avoid any long-term damage. The best way to know if you have contracted a male yeast infection is by scheduling a visit with your doctor.

Bacterial vaginosis (BV) is the most common type of vaginal infection, although you may not have heard as much about it as you have heard about yeast infections. It is widely believed to be even more common than yeast infections. Bacteria vaginosis is vaginal condition that can produce vaginal discharge and results from an overgrowth of normal bacteria in the vagina. Bacterial vaginosis is typically characterized by an abnormal vaginal discharge with a pungent unpleasant odor. BV is not dangerous, but it can cause disturbing symptoms.

Bacterial Vaginosis Symptoms

The most common symptom of BV is an increase in a grayish white vaginal discharge, unlike normal vaginal discharge. A fishy odor on the whiff test usually means bacteria vaginosis is present. Symptoms may include:A thin, gray or white discharge that sticks to the walls of the vagina, an unpleasant fishy or musty odor, burning when urinating, vaginal itching, and irritation during or after sex. If you have these symptoms, talk to your doctor about what to do. However, keep in mind, up to 50% of women diagnosed with BV do not have symptoms.

BV Causes

The exact cause of bacterial vaginosis is unknown. The causes of bacterial vaginosis are relatively poorly understood. However, the following activities have been associated with a greater risk of infection: having a new sex partner, having multiple sex partners, douching and using an intrauterine contraception device (IUD). It is not clear what role sexual activity plays in the development of bacterial vaginosis, but it is more common among women who have had vaginal sex. Researchers today are unable to find just one cause, which causes bacterial vaginosis, but have found it to be caused by an imbalance of bacteria in the vagina. This condition used to be called Gardnerella vaginitis, because Gardnerella is a type of bacteria that sometimes causes the infection.

Bacterial Vaginosis Treatment

Treatment is usually 7 days with oral and 5 days with a topical cream. Treatment of bacterial vaginosis is simple and involves taking antibiotic tablets. Bacterial vaginosis usually clears up in 2 or 3 days with antibiotics, but treatment goes on for 7 days. Treatment of bacterial vaginosis: A comparison of oral metronidazole, metronidazole vaginal gel, and clindamycin vaginal cream. Bacterial vaginosis is treated with oral metronidazole (given either as asingle dose or a seven-day course) or clindamycin. When considering treatment for bacterial vaginosis, ask your doctor whether you should:Use oral medicine or medicine inserted into the vagina.

For most women, vaginosis is simply a nuisance, and the goal of treatment is to relieve symptoms. BV is often under diagnosed because many women assume they have a yeast infection and treat symptoms with over-the-counter medications. Since BV is the most common type of vaginitis, it is nothing to be ashamed about if you acquire this infection. Bacterial vaginosis is one of the most common reasons for women to visit their doctor or gynecologist.

Yeast infection cures are so often sought that you will find many varieties of over the counter remedies to choose from. Few words can actually express the utter discomfort of a yeast infection, but if it’s a yeast infection cure that you’re after, then you have come to the right place. Yeast infections are also known as candidiasis. The predominant symptoms are itching and a thick white discharge that resembles cottage cheese.

Causes of Yeast Infections

Understanding what causes of yeast infections is part of the cure and you will find all the information you need here. Yeast infections are generally caused by an organism called Candida albicans or Candidiasis and there is no direct evidence that it is passed through sexual intercourse. Yeast infections can also be caused by medications or other substances that alter your hormones. Other various causes of yeast infections are: pregnancy, oral contraceptives, hormonal changes, antibiotic usage, unhygienic conditions and tight clothing or underwear. A yeast infection is also more common after menopause due to declining estrogen levels which thin the vaginal walls.

Yeast Infection Cure Options

When you’re looking for cures for a yeast infection, you’d be amazed at the vast amounts of information available. There are different yeast infection cures that you can use from home remedies, over the counter products to prescription treatments. Monistat, which is available over the counter, was once available only by prescription and was the most popular yeast infection cure. Among the home cures you will find are garlic, yogurt, tea tree oil, boric acid and the list goes on. There are two e-books devoted to yeast infection cures: Natural Cure for Yeast Infection and Yeast Infection Now More. Both books boast natural remedies for yeat infections which claim to cure the problem for good, as apposed to drugs which may only be surface deep leaving the route cause of the yeast infection untreated. Drug companies want to make a profit, therefore they don’t want to spend money researching natural cures or promoting them. Prescription yeast infection cures include Terazol and Gynazole, both of which are vaginal creams, and also Mycostatin which comes in the form of vaginal tablets or vaginal suppositories. Along with these cures it is also advised to eat plenty of yogurt. Research has shown that daily ingestion of yogurt containing Lactobacillus acidophilus helps in the prevention and treatment of candidal vaginitis (a.k.a. yeast infection).

Yeast infections are common and they are nothing to be ashamed of. Yeast infections are not generally life threatening but in some cases can cause other problems so it is important to have a doctor investigate the source of the condition and provide an effective yeast infection cure to alleviate the symptoms of the yeast infection and ease the discomfort the youngster is experiencing.

Fishy vaginal odor is a common complaint among women. There are many possible causes of fishy vaginal odor, some very minor and the others more serious. Fishy vaginal odor is usually caused from inflammation of the vaginal area. The most common cause of vaginal odor is bacterial vaginosis, resulting from an overgrowth of organisms normally present in the vagina. Please read through our site and get a better understanding on how to combat vaginal odor problems.

Fishy Vaginal Odor Causes

Usually, fishy odor is very distinctive only to bacterial vaginosis. A strong fish-like vaginal odor, burning, and a milky discharge are indicators of BV. Symptoms of trichomonas vaginitis may include: A yellow-gray or green vaginal discharge, sometimes with a “fishy” odor, burning, irritation, redness and swelling of the vulva and vagina, pain during urination. Symptoms of BV include a discharge, fishy odor and perhaps itching, which women often mistake for a yeast infection. Symptoms such as itching, burning and irritation are not common but may occur in up to one-third of women with BV. One problem is that as many as fifty percent of the women with BV will not show any symptoms of bacterial vaginosis and therefore there are probably many more women that do not even know they have this infection. This odor may become more pronounced after having intercourse and often has a fishy smell.
Feminine Odor Treatment

Vaginal odor is something which can be a source of embarrassment for women who suffer from this problem. Rid yourself once and for all of that horrible odor so many women are embarrassed by. Treatment usually involves either watching to see if it clears up on its own, or the use of antibiotics. Treatment is with antibiotics such as Metronidazole or Clindamycin; it can be oral or with a vaginal cream or gel. See a doctor immediately if you’re suffering from fishy vaginal odor after engaging in unsafe or high-risk sex.

Vaginal odor can pose a serious problem to all women. It is nothing more than an imbalance between the good and bad bacteria present in the vagina. Feminine odor is not an issue of being “dirty”, as many people believe. Feminine odor and vaginal discharge, which can be fishy smelling, is most often caused by bacterial vaginosis, sometimes just called BV. It is the most common, and often initial, symptom of BV. The odor may be more noticeable after unprotected sexual contact.

Feminine Odor Causes

Vaginal odor can be caused by several factors. The most common cause of the feminine odor is bacterial vaginosis, resulting from an overgrowth of organisms normally present in the vagina. The unpleasant odor can be caused by non-sexually transmitted infections such as gardnerella (bacterial vaginosis). It sometimes comes from the interaction between bacteria, vaginal secretions and semen. In addition, feminine odor can be caused by many factors, such as, lack of feminine hygiene, Chlamydia, Genital Herpes, Gonorrhea, Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, bacterial vaginosis, yeast infections, Syphilis, and more. Poor feminine hygiene is a common cause of odor while a less common cause would be forgetting to remove a tampon from your vagina.

Treatment, Remedies and Solutions

There are solutions to vaginal odor as well as remedies and treatments. Most over the counter feminine odor products for treating bacterial vaginosis attempt to mask or cover up the vaginal odors by using perfumes and deodorizers. Solutions for getting rid of gross vaginal smells or a smelly vagina are found by consulting a doctor to treat the specific cause. In addition, home remedies for odor like Femanol are also available.

Vaginal odor is a source of embarrassment for many women. Feminine odor can be embarrassing and it can hurt your love life, your social life and your professional life. Imagine yourself free of worrying about being embarrassed by feminine odor. If vaginal odor persists, consult your doctor.
